Newcastle has gone from strength to strength recently and it is now the key tourist location in the north east of England appealing to millions of visitors every year. Millions of pounds of investment have rejuvenated the city centre turning it into an appealing place to live as well as work and helped to generate thousands of brand new job opportunities.
There are numerous good reasons to visit Newcastle and it’s been identified as the UK’s favourite city break for 4 consecutive years in The Guardian/Observer travel awards. Newcastle possesses an array of superb attractions for the family and a weekend break defintely won’t be enough to discover all of them.
It is well-known that the north east is a hotbed of sporting fanaticism and now that Newcastle United are back in the Premier league there are sure to be 1000s of soccer supporters from throughout the nation doing the journey to St James’s Park. The Great North Run is another event which attracts hundreds of thousands of runners and spectators to the city each year and also helps to raise millions of pounds for charity.
Shopping in Newcastle is something of a pastime for its residents and it’s not hard to understand why. The MetroCentre has the largest shopping centre and complex in Europe with many top name brands under one roof. With the Newcastle Quayside Market beginning in July 2010 plus the already established Grainger market, Jesmond market and the Farmers & Country marketplace you will be hard pressed not to pick up a good deal somewhere.
Newcastle has one of the best range of clubs and pubs in the uk and has a reputation across the UK as the place to go for a great night out. The Quayside and the Bigg market bring in a lively, young crowd and for the somewhat more mature you can find a large number of traditional pubs, theatres along with high quality restaurants. And of course no trip to Newcastle could be complete without trying the renowned Newcastle Brown Ale at least once.
When you are searching for accommodations you’ll find a fantastic selection of hotels in Newcastle from which to choose. From B&B’s to five star hotels there is accommodation to suit every pocket and I can personally recommend the Rosebery Hotel in Jesmond as a superb place to stay.
